I feel like I’ve been waiting for the longest time for someone to tell me that hair clamps are an okay thing to wear outside of their natural habitat (i.e. my bedroom on the weekend during a tedious Netflix binge).
The closest go-signal I’ve received was via a season 5 episode of Girls, when Jessa shows up to Adam and Ray’s viewing party with her hair twisted up into an otherwise unremarkable, dollar-store hair clamp. A rebelliously nonchalant detail that is mostly obscured by the character’s sick hoop earrings and overall distracting Jemima Kirke-ness.
Inspired by this low-key act of ‘who gives a shit’ accessorizing, and by the ‘90s-inspired butterfly clips and crystal barrettes that made their way down Fendi and Ashley Williams’ SS17 runways, we decided to put a pin (so to speak) on our trusty elastics in favor of the barrettes, clamps, and hair slides of our girlhood.
Paired together with the relaxed silhouettes of modern-day workwear, the look is contemporary, cool, and ultimately, unbothered by whether or not the double-takes they incur are worth stressing out over.
