One of the biggest challenges of producing the stories under this particular series is finding people to feature that will be able to deliver a unique and inspiring set of looks. One visit to her Instagram page (@garcongirl_) was more than enough, however, to convince us that Bea Ticsay was the right kind of gal to tap for Five Looks.
Currently taking up BS Clothing Technology in UP Diliman, Bea stands out thanks to a fun and experimental approach to fashion that’s still very much rooted in a strong sense of personal style. The moods and aesthetics of her looks shift daily and yet they all seem to be so authentically her. To put it simply: despite the diversity and playfulness of Bea’s outfits, she never looks like she’s playing dress-up.
The ever-changing aesthetics of Bea’s wardrobe can probably be attributed to her odd mix of visual references and inspirations. “These days however, I’m most intrigued by the fashions of the lolos and lolas I see everywhere in public. I love how they always dress so nonchalantly in that they don’t try too hard to show themselves in their clothes. It’s a nice breather from the usual trendy clothes I see as worn by everybody else. I also enjoy looking through street style photos from different countries. I particularly like Japanese, Korean, and Thai street style. Their ways of dressing have influenced mine to a great extent,” she shares.
For her Five Looks feature, Bea chose a short-sleeved white button-down shirt. “Short-sleeved button-downs of various designs, I think, fill up one-fourth of my closet. I wear them often to school or when I go out. I particularly prefer ones with vertical stripes or those with tropical themes,” she explains. “The possibilities for a white button down are endless. I think it goes with everything. Also; as my style is always changing, a white one is a versatile piece that I can always rely on. I got this particular white one from a visit to the thrift store, and I’ve had it for almost 3 years now. It’s one of my favorite clothing items, just because it fits me well and I like the feel of the fabric.”
“I am a huge fan of BIGBANG (shout out to T.O.P., my fave!), so essentially this shirt is one of my favorite clothing items. I enjoy wearing band shirts because they’re good conversation starters and they’re fuss-free ways to look for fellow fans out in public.”
Lazy Day Dressing
“Throwing on an oversized shirt over long trousers is what I usually go for when I want to dress comfortably. I also enjoy wearing long trousers; especially those that graze the floor. It makes me feel like a little kid wearing oversized, grown-up clothes.”
All White Everything
“I’ve always been an avid listener of yé-yé singer Françoise Hardy, and so seeing a photo of her sporting an all-white ensemble convinced me try it out myself. I don’t wear monochromatic outfits often, so I guess this would be something I would reserve for special occasions.”
Just Like Dad
“My dad’s go-to pants have always been pleated trousers, and I guess just seeing him everyday in those was a push for me to get one myself. I’ve also been into wearing eyeglass chains recently after seeing some of my favorite Korean rappers sport it themselves.”
Getting Down to Business
“I will always be a fan of the skirt-suit (and even pant-suit) combo, and I would wear one to school everyday if only the weather permits me to. I’ve been looking for a good oversized blazer for a while now; so I was very happy I was able find one for only 50 bucks!”
