Who is Wil Beedle?
This is the most difficult question they have done to me all day (laughs). Let’s see, I live in London with my wife and daughter, walk every day at my work to make collections that connect people around the world. I carry these collections around the world to meet people who use them, see how they use them and document me the top. All this inspires me and in London, even bringing my daughter to school inspires me. It’s another kind of journey.
How did your collaboration with AllSaints begin?
Fourteen years ago, I was walking in Paris dressed in the pieces I had designed. A military jacket with tight sleeves and slim pants. I met someone who loved what I was wearing, and it turned out that he was working for AllSaints. Back in London, I met the team which was then composed of only four people. We decided to collaborate and change the history of the brand.
The most exciting when you are the creative director of AllSaints?
I think it is possible to do everything with a good team. I study an idea, we establish a concept, we design it, produce it, we take pictures, and look for how people use it, wear it. There are no barriers in our creative approach, it’s incredible.
What is a successful garment?
The person wearing it must be at ease. That is the only criterion that counts. You do not need more!
Your greatest obsession?
Relevance. I want to be relevant as a creator.
Your favorite places on the globe?
My favorite city is always where I am at the moment. If I am in London, I think this is the best place in the world. Next week, if I go to Los Angeles, I’ll think it’s the best city in the world. What I do not like is to be in a place where nothing happens.
