In a social media purge, the Mean Girls alumna deleted all her Instagram and Twitter posts at the beginning of the year and returned to Instagram with her first IG post on 27 Feb – a picture of the smiling 30-year-old standing next to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with the hashtag cleanslate2017.
For years, Lohan – who starred in The Parent Trap (1998), Freaky Friday (2003), Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004), Mean Girls (2004), and Herbie Fully Loaded (2005) – has made headlines for her numerous legal troubles, including arrests for drunken driving, reckless driving and shoplifting. And many a time, sadly, she has suffered the fate of being a punchline. But another Instagram post that shows Lohan captured in a moment of jubilation as she bends over a toddler in a stroller reaching out for her is proof that she is turning adversity on its head.
And if her unwavering adieu to La Vida Lohan and recent involvement in humanitarian work are anything to go by, the star who shot to fame when she appeared in Disney’s The Parent Trap at the age of 11 is set to shine again – well, we certainly hope so. Here, our exclusive interview with the reinvigorated Lindsay Lohan, who gives us her views on film, fashion and finding peace:
What are you up to these days?
I am based part-time in Dubai, I travel a lot (laughs). I actually just started a company on production, management, and branding, and to develop my own products and projects. It’s a great place for me to expand the Lohan brand as well, since I only just started it in Athens. I am working on a Lohan island as well as some villas in Mykonos!
What’s life like for you now?
I work, stay healthy, write my book, focus on the next movie I will be doing this coming year, and to be happy, and just feeling grateful and seeing all the beauty that surrounds us.
You’ve just entered your 30s. What are you looking forward to in this decade?
Work, work, work, spend more time with family, get back into more films and producing projects, TV shows and more. And, when the time comes, to settle down.
What goals and changes have you set for yourself this year? Any new year’s resolutions?
Just to stay focused and to be happy, healthy, grateful and loving. What is the most important piece of advice you would give to 13-year-old you?
Stay true to yourself, stay humble, follow your dreams and surround yourself with family and good people. Never give up!
What’s your relationship with fashion today?
Fashion has been my longest relationship to date (laughs)! I love fashion, it expresses so much of how we feel in every moment.
What are some of your favourite brands?
I love the direction Gucci is going in. I am obsessed with Vetements. Özlem Öztürk from Turkey is great, and Melinda Looi too.
Is Mean Girls 2 going to happen? What do you think would make the perfect plot?
Please help me petition to make it happen! I wrote a treatment and sent it over to [producer of Mean Girls] Lorne Michaels a while ago, so let’s do it!
