I was never into mascara, choosing instead to get my lashes permed, for fear of having them fall off with the daily rubbing of makeup remover. And then I saw a random “before and after” video on Facebook using this mascara and my mind was blown. How is it that even without a lash curler, my eyelashes, which are thin, black, and point straight downward, suddenly seem like falsies themselves??? Black magic, clearly, and in the form of a mascara tube. I only wish that this were all hype, but unfortunately/fortunately, I’m going to suck it up– it’s transformative.
I bought mine at DFS in Hong Kong, because I forgot that there’s a DIOR MAKEUP in SM Makati.
Pond by Claire-Louise Bennett
Am I allowed to put a book I haven’t read? My copy is yet to arrive but I’m desperate to read Bennett’s 20-storey debut. It has been called by many reviewers as “stunning” (The Guardian) and “ardent, addictively obsessive-compulsive, a little feral” (Vogue), and Bennett herself as “innovative with real talent” (The New York Times Book Review) or a female Thoreau, but to be honest, I’m just looking for something to drown in.
I ordered off Amazon, because, really, it’s the only way to get proper books in Manila.
Urban Outfitters patchwork rug
Urban Outfitters is my interior design guilty pleasure moodboard– I am equal parts in love with everything under their Apartment section and in confusion as to whether I am basic or not. I don’t know, really, I just know I like cozy semi-maximalist spaces where I can nap. Unfortunately, I can’t ship their furniture here, because that would cost way more than even the piece itself, but I’ve found that they have a wonderfully affordable and not-too-Coachella selection of rugs. I fell in love with one in millennial shades of rainbow colors, and it’s brightened up my black and white room ever since.
Urban Outfitters is, of course, available on their website and in store.
Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Skin Treatment
After months of thinking about hopping onto the 10 Step Korean Skincare bandwagon, I finally decided to add a Korean beauty product to my very Western daily regimen. I got the Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Skin Treatment after spending roughly an hour making skincare charts with my best friend and realizing that I had everything essential for the 10 Step system except a serum and an essence. The skin treatment I got is actually considered a toner but I’d like to pretend it works fine in place of an essence or treatment. After patting it on for about a month (right after my actual, harsh-but-effective Western toner), my skin’s texture has significantly improved.
I got my Missha fix through Landmark Trinoma’s beauty section but you can also buy the product via Beauty MNL
Glossier Haloscope in Quartz
As you can probably tell by now, I’m a late adapter when it comes to trend. Too much hype turns me off so I never really like “in” products when they’re in — I like them before or after their peak. Glossier is a brand that’s always just been cute to me but after a friend (read: same girl who I made skincare charts with a month ago ugh) brought up wanting to try their Cloud Paint a few days ago, I started to look through their products. After seeing tons of photos of the brand’s highlighter, Haloscope, I am so sold. I love how its effect isn’t shimmery, just dewy. I’ve always loved highlighters but it’s always been so hard looking for non-glittery ones. Haloscope in Quartz looks so promising that I’m already trying to figure out how to get my hands on it.
Glossier is available through glossier.com
Your Heart is A Muscle the Size of A Fist by Sunil Yapa
I just finished reading this and I’m not over it at all. It’s historical fiction that takes place during the 1999 World Trade Organisation demonstration. It talks about politics, protests, and police brutality through different narrators — a handful of protesters, three cops, and a UN delegate. It’s such a powerful read. 10/10, would recommend!
I got my copy from Fully Booked Greenhills but you can request for a copy at any of their branches.
Sleep has been a luxury (Thanks to Netflix binge nights.), so why not wear something that’s just as luxurious? I never saw myself as a pajama kind of gal, but I can’t resist anything satin and deep pink. Also, there’s no harm in making bed time a little bit more of a celebration.
Victoria’s Secret’s online store ships to the Philippines, but if you’ve got the time, you can visit their store at SM Mega Fashion Hall.
I’ve been make-up free for a little bit over a week now, and I would thank this product for making that possible. Two sprays are enough to instantly refresh and plump up my face and keep it that way for the rest of the day. I’m honestly in love.
The L’Occitane outlet in Central Square, BGC is perfect for those who are on-the-go.
Summer 2017 has been exceptionally hot, so it’s high time for my cold dessert cravings. I feel bad for saying this, but I’ll take this any day over halo-halo. Eating this takes time, which I like, because every scoop of this deserves to be savored. Seol Bang also easily serves the best bingsu in the city.
Seol Bang Bingsu is located at Century City Mall and Venice Grand Canal.
I have thick lips, and if I didn’t drink my usual 2-3 liters of water a day, the chap is real down there. I’ve been using this regularly, and I never knew that my lips could be *that* smooth. It doesn’t hurt that this all-natural lip scrub tastes like rootbeer too.
Black Rose Botanicals is available online.
