I’m a Scorpio, underscore, underscore, underscore—I was born under the eighth sign, with both my sun and moon in Scorpio. I’ve never felt any familiarity with another sign (although I did briefly carry a flame of jealousy toward Leos), and every description presented of a Scorpio, I agree with 100%. I take the good (courageous, perceptive, loyal) with the bad (distrustful, dramatic, self-destructive), although in true Scorpion fashion, to me they are interchangeable.
A Personalized Horoscope by Tita Susan Herself
Tita Susan is not always blindingly accurate, but I do think it’s also because she’s one of the few astrologists bold enough to predict events for specific dates, and at such a tasking word count. I’ve been waiting for a close Tita Susan-loyalist friend’s birthday to come by so I can give them a personalized horoscope book, celebrant’s name printed on the cover and all. Tita Susan focuses on your Rising sign and unique birth chart for a thrilling 64 pages– and yes, I am gifting this to myself for my own birthday.

Crystals kind of freak me out; what if they become a beacon for spirits??? Especially worrisome for myself, given that the Scorpio’s natural crystals are smoky quartz, which was sacred to Druids for its dark power; topaz, which can be a talisman for connecting to the heavenly realm; and opal, which is a karmic stone. But hey, if not for spiritual or psychological reasons, they do make interesting decor.
Most Scorpios wear the “innately sexual” descriptor as a badge of pride, but I’m just here to tell you that you can get an Intrauterine Device inserted here from a private doctor. Yes, it’s possible in Manila– for how long, I have no clue.
Ask around at hospitals for a recommendation, but drop me a line if you want a specific doctor’s number. It’s around PhP4000-5000.
IDEA Books x Sunspel ‘Winona’ sweatshirt
I was dead set on getting my brother one of these for his birthday, and of course it magically sold out just as I was about to order. Oh, and yes: Winona is a Scorpio.

The Yard pins/patches
Few are able to do snarky without going full on Television Without Pity bitch, which is why The Yard’s despondent, Daria-like humour appeals to me. Leave behind all those other brands that just want to bathe you in millennial pink– no one else captures the true darkness-coming-to-light of a Scorpio like artists and sisters Carina and Isabel Santos.
Like the great prophet Beyoncé (my favourite person to namedrop in any given situation), I am a Virgo. We’re nitpicky perfectionists that love the idea of efficiency — I mean I try to be as efficient as possible but it doesn’t always work out, y’know? — and logic. Our brains are always on overdrive, trying to find the most creative ways to execute our plethora of ideas but also keeping us trapped in our own (bad) thoughts. To top it all off, we have a low-key Messiah complex which normally does more good than bad.
I’ve been looking for shoot-friendly shoes for quite some time now. That is to say, shoes that won’t leave my heels aching after 4-6 hours of standing, walking, and demonstrating poses on set. A friend who works for a video production house recently suggested that I get Gazelles — I’ve been eyeing them for a while now but her testimony just sealed the deal. I really want to get them in yellow (a Virgo colour + one of my favourite colours), though , and I’ve only seen red, black, and white here. Help a sister out and let me know where I can get these in my preferred colour!
I’ve seen Gazelles in several branches of Sole Academy but of course, they’re also available in most Adidas stores.
I used to have this but I accidentally restored my phone recently and now I need to download it again. With all the crazy thoughts that come in and out of my Virgo mind, I need some sort of outlet — or, well, at least a way to escape from myself for a little bit. Headspace is a great meditation app that has trumped maybe four or five others I’ve tried in the past. It’s so good that I’ve recommended it to a handful of friends IRL. For the most part, this app is free. You only have to pay to subscribe to more specific meditation sets.
Head on over to your App Store or Google Play to download the app.
The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddharta Mukherjee
For most Virgos, knowledge is power — it’s currency. I think this Virgo trait manifests itself in my life through my love for reading. My book choices tend to vary but some topics I always come back to include linguistics, psychology, and just generally how humans work. The Gene is my next read (I already have a copy!) and I’m already really excited for it. As made obvious by the title, it talks about the history of the gene but it also discusses the future of genetics and how humans might be able to evolve once we can start mapping out the genes of our children. Good stuff.
As with most of my books, I picked this up at Fully Booked The Fort.
& Other Stories Leather Utility Bag
Last week, Andrea needed to borrow a pen from me. I was busy eating chicken wings with my bare hands so I asked her to look for it in my bag. It took her about 10 minutes of going through old receipts and unnecessary objects (a melted chocolate bar, included) to find the one pen in my bag. I’m a mess (very un-Virgo, I know) and I shouldn’t be allowed to own tote bags… And yet, they’re all I have. To Virgo myself up, I’m asking for this handy-looking bag from my brother as pasalubong from the States. Does it count if I’m not spending on it myself but I’m asking someone else to do so? Oh well.
I’m instructing my brother to check out the & Other Stories branch along Fifth Avenue in NYC. Sadly, & Other Stories doesn’t have any local branches.
Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in Mustard
I’ve been wanting to get myself yellow eyeshadow for a few months now and I think the time is finally right. I love how it’s an odd colour but it isn’t exactly garish or loud. I have no reason to put this under this list other than (as mentioned earlier) the fact that yellow is a Virgo colour. Ta-da!
I’m planning on visiting Make Up For Ever’s SM Megamall branch for this because that means I can hop on over to Ooma right after. Yum!
