A style staple from the 60s to the 80s, hoops have crawled back into fashion slowly but surely starting from SS 16. We first saw them reemerge as lacquered hoops at Céline’s SS16 show and eccentric sixties-inspired hoops at Marni SS16. Hoops also stole the scene at Loewe’s FW16 show, appearing as earrings, necklaces, bag chains, and arm cuff details. Tibi’s SS17 collection featured statement hoops with abstract shapes hanging off them while Altuzarra’s SS17 collection showed a whole new kind of hoop completely – a cross between modern art and fusilli. The trend proves to be going strong with gilded and stacked versions appearing in Marc Jacobs, colourful and bold versions for Fendi, as well as oversized graphic circles from Zimmerman this season. Local jewelry brands have also adapted the trend through sleek and simple earrings by Annealed, slip-on necklaces by Stockton Row, and thick plain rings by Nami.
Whether it’s large thin hoops like Lauryn Hill, small dangling rings like Audrey Hepburn, or a chunkier variant a la Sade that you want, we’ve got you covered. It seems like there’s a hoop out there for everyone – except maybe Gretchen Wieners.
