I like a makeup look that I can count on for any given day or occasion—whether I’m heading to the mall or I’m off to Black Market on a Wednesday night for Bad Decisions. I go for something that I can count on to make me feel good and look put together. My technique is to have this go-to look and then add or subtract from it depending on where I’m going or how I’m feeling. It usually takes me 15 to 20 minutes to do it. If I feel like being extra I add steps like a winged liner or colored eye shadow.
First I make sure my face is all clean and ready with Cetaphil because I have sensitive skin. My second step is primer. I’m usually out from day to night, so this step really helps to make sure the makeup I’m about to apply stays on the entire time. My favorite at the moment is the NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer.
Third is foundation. On a hot, humid day, my go-to is the NARS Tinted Moisturizer. I prefer it because it’s light in terms of coverage but evens out my skin tone and gives it a fresh, dewy look. I either apply it with a brush or sometimes I just use my hands.
Next is concealer. I use Maybelline’s Fit Me. It’s cheap and so easy to blend. I use my fingers to press it onto the area under my eyes. For brows I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony. I already have thick brows, so I just add a little bit to make them extra bushy and give them shape. My tip: use an eyebrow mascara because it holds all the hairs up the entire day, and also makes them look naturally bushy and not drawn on.
After that I contour a little bit with my Wet n Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette. It’s so affordable. It has a lot of powder kickback, but that’s something you can ignore because the finish of it is so flawless. Plus, I also use it as an eye shadow to contour my eyes. After that, I reach for my NARS’ Blush in Orgasm. It gives the best natural flush for your cheeks. There’s a reason why it’s a cult classic.
Next: highlighter. I put it on the high points of my cheeks and the bridge of my nose. I just tried a new drug store brand recently, and now I can’t imagine my life without it. It’s the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter. It isn’t chunky at all and it gives you that natural glow that’s still visible enough for people who like a popping highlight.
Second to the last is mascara. My favorite is Covergirl’s The Super Sizer. It has a small brush so it coats every single lash, and the best thing about it is that it’s so easy to remove so I’m not scared of any lash fallout.
My last step is lipstick. I’m a lipstick freak—I’m not one to just use a tint or lip gloss. My favorite nude is MAC’s Matte Lipstick in Taupe. It goes with every single look and complements any outfit.
Extra step if I’m feeling extra: face spray. If I want my highlight to pop and my skin to glow after putting on powder, I use something like MAC’s Prep + Prim Fix + spray. It helps me look fresh and not all caked up.
I usually never touch up to be honest. The only thing I would do throughout the night is re-apply or change my lip color. I bring an extra lippie in my bag if I want to go from a nude lip to something darker that will pack an even bigger punch for a night out.
